CAMPOS, Juliana Alvares Duarte Bonini; BONAFE, Fernanda Salloume Sampaio  e  MAROCO, João. Referred pain: a brief discussion on the perception of pain. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.1, pp.26-33. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/18psd190105.

To verify the influence of the reference period on the Intensity and Interference of pain in the life of adult individuals. 832 subjects with pain in the last 24 hours participated. The Brief Pain Inventory (BPI), the Self-Efficacy Questionnaire for Pain(PSEQ) and the Pain Catastrophization Scale (PCS) were used as measuring instruments. BPI was applied using two reference periods: last pain experience and last 24 hours. Pain Intensity, Pain Interference on daily activities, Pain Interference on affectivity were compared between groups with different pain conditions (G1: pain for less than 3 months, G2: recurrent pain for more than 3 months, G3: continuous pain for more than 3 months). The individuals were reclassified, considering the final scores from both BPI and PCS, into GA - report of the last painful experience> pain in the last 24hs, GB - last painful experience <24hs and GC - last painful experience = 24hs. Mean Intensity and Pain Interference scores were higher for last pain experience for all groups. G3 subjects presented higher scores for the last pain experience and pain interference in the activities. GB individuals had higher catastrophic scores and lower self-efficacy scores. There was an influence of the reference period on the pain intensity and interference scores in individuals' lives.
