Resumen

PEIXOTO, Ana Carina; SANTOS, Carla Bernardett  y  MENESES, Rute F.. Social skills in health promotion: mental and sexual health predictors. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.1, pp.11-17. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/18psd190103.

Health, defined as a dynamic state that integrates physical, mental and social aspects, implies the relationship between them. It is assumed that its promotion is a relevant strategy, with a significant impact on higher education students. The aims of the present study are: to explore the relationship between social skills, personality traits and sexual satisfaction and to verify if social skills predict the remaining variables in higher education students. In this cross-sectional, correlational study, the IHS - Social Skills Inventory (Del Prette & Del Prette, 2001, adapted for the Portuguese population by Santos, Peixoto & Meneses, 2017), the NEO-FFI (Lima & Simões, 2000) and the NSSS - New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (Santos Pechorro et al., 2015) were administered to 200 students, with a mean, age of 23 years, from three higher education institutions of the North of Portugal. Social skills correlated with and predicted the sample's personality traits (explaining between 5.7% and 33.7% of their variance) and sexual satisfaction (explaining between 4.6% and 7.9% of the its variance). Social skills' potential in the promotion of mental and sexual health suggest the pertinence of their training among higher education students.

Palabras clave : social skills; personality traits; sexual satisfaction; health promotion; higher education students.
