Abstract

AFONSO, José de Abreu  and  LEAL, Isabel. Relationship rating form adaptation and validation for the Portuguese population. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.3, pp.880-900. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/17psd180320.

This article consists on the validation of the Relationship Rating Form -RRF (Davis, 1996) - an instrument that measures friendship, romantic relationships and love - for the Portuguese population. The concept of love used on this research is developed from the empirical and conceptual body of descriptive psychology. The construction of the scale is based on a prototypical or ideal case, which includes the relevant features that a real case of love should reveal. The results of the factor analysis by the KMO method, using oblimin rotation, produced a meaningful solution of seven factors (but not quite coincident to those that Davis and his colleagues obtained in the US in the middle 90's): 1-Success/Global Satisfaction; 2- Love disillusion; 3-Care for Partner's Well-being; 4-Commitment; 5- Fascination 6-Knowledge; 7-Coercion. Factor 1 includes the following sub-scales: Respect/Esteem; Mutual Confiding/Intimacy; Sexual Desire; Satisfaction; Maintenance; Acceptance. Factor 2 includes the subscales of Distrust/Disappointment; Disrespect/Disloyalty; Tension/Ambivalence. Factor 3 includes Assistance, Championing and Give the Utmost sub-scales. In factor 4 we contemplate the Enjoyment; Trust/Confiding; Exclusiveness and Projecting in the Future sub-scales. The reliability of the factors was tested through the use of Cronbach Alpha.

Keywords : couple relationship; love; romantic relationship; friendship.
