RIBEIRO, José Pais et al. Stigma and chronic diseases: How to assess. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.3, pp.625-639. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/17psd180301.

Stigma is recognized as an important issue in chronic diseases. With the aging population, evolving research in physiology and medicine, and better living conditions have contributed to boosting life expectancy, and reducing death from acute diseases, with a consequent increase of people living with chronic diseases and associated stigma. The objective of the present study is to build a scale to assess stigma in conditions of disease or equivalent, that is generic and short so as to be useful and easy to use within the health system. The scale was developed with items from existing stigma scales in diverse languages, used with specific diseases or conditions. Participants are 259 individuals, 30.1% male, mean age of 49.49 years, with various diseases or conditions, undergoing treatment and/or continued vigilance. The final version, after nomologic network analysis, includes five items. Inspection of psychometric properties, namely, internal consistence (α=0.82), factorial structure (unidimensional), convergence and divergence, sensibility, shows that the final scale reaches the objectives of a short scale with adequate metric properties.

Palavras-chave : stigma; chronic diseases; assessment.
