Abstract

CUNHA, Katiane da Costa; RAMOS, Maely Ferreira Holanda; SILVA, Simone Souza da Costa  and  PONTES, Fernando Augusto Ramos. Parental stress and cerebral palsy. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.2, pp.433-450. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/17psd180212.

This paper presents a systematic literature review with the aim of establishing an international overview of the studies that investigated stress in parents of children with cerebral palsy between January 2003 and June 2015. This search yielded 27 studies. It was found, by analyzing the results of these articles that parents of children with cerebral palsy seem to experience higher levels of stress than parents of typically developing children. This may be related to decreased sense of family welfare, because of the great demands generated by the limitations in activities by children (behavior, motor impairment, social engagement, etc.), by the support of disability, in addition to parental dissatisfaction with communication cerebral palsy. Finally getting those findings underscore the growing interest of literature to investigate the parental stress in families of children with cerebral palsy.

Keywords : stress psychological; parents; children; cerebral palsy.
