Anticipatory grief has been a phenomena of investigation in the scientific health field, once its comprehension allows us to develop adequate psychotherapeutic approaching to the needs of both patients and caregivers. The anticipatory grief experience reaches both emotional and physical/social aspects, bringing the urge for the full team to give proper support. The aim of the present article is to investigate which physical and psychological diseases related to anticipatory grief, to analyse who are the subjects involved in the anticipatory grief and to briefly relate the results. The method consists in a review of the literature whose keywords were “anticipatory grief” in MEDLINE database and “luto antecipatório” in SCIELO database. In MEDLINE, 53 articles were found, and in SCIELO, 1. From the inclusion criteria, a result of 32 articles was found. Cancer has 60% of the studies, cognitive dysfunction (which covers Alzheimer's, cognitive damage, and dementia) has 22%, prematurity and cerebral palsy 6%, and psychogenic non-epileptic and congenital malformation 3%. Therefore, cancer is the most prevailing disease, once its diagnosis has more probability of terminality which involves palliative attention related to experiences of anticipatory grief.
