It is considered that in Brazil there are approximately five million people with diabetes and at least half of them do not have knowledge of the diagnosis. The health care professionals have been concerned increasingly on self-care of their patients, since it is often not incorporated into the daily life and, in consequence of this, can acquire large chronic complications, as chronic diseases a stable and require careful adjustment by the patient. This self-care may be related to the actions that people follow for the benefit of their own health. This qualitative study therefore aimed to determine the difference self-care in patients with type 1 diabetes and type 2 were interviewed four subjects diagnosed with the disease, with age ranging from 21 to 57 years. The subject of analysis enabled us to verify aspects such as diagnosis, nutrition, exercise, diabetic foot, everyday, self-care, drug application, periodic checks and the cost of treating the disease. The result indicates that there are differences in self-care in patients with type 1 and type 2 impact in some areas. The result indicates that there are differences in self-care in patients with type 1 and type 2 being the foot care appeared more in type 1 .
