Abstract

PATRAO, Ana Luísa; ALVES, Vicente Paulo  and  NEIVA, Tiago. Psychometric properties of the general self-efficacy scale in brazilian elderly. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.1, pp.29-38. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/17psd180103.

This paper analyzes the psychometric properties of the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), by Schwarzer e Jerusalem (2000), in a Brazilian gerontological sample. Participated in this study 144 elderly (M age=69.34; SD=6.61), patients of Basic Health Unit of Granja do Torto (Brasília). The GSES scores presented high internal consistency in this sample (Cronbach Alpha = 0.91). The exploratory principal components factor analysis yielded one factor, explaining 54.5% of the variance. In terms of convergent validity, GSES presented significant correlations with other instruments that evaluate associated psychosocial variables, such as social support, self-esteem, depression and violence partners. So, the GSES is an important instrument in terms of research and intervention within the framework of psychological assessment and the health promotion of Brazilian elderly.

Keywords : self-efficacy scale; psychometric properties; elderly.
