Abstract

The general aim of this study was to check the relationship between an Artistic Ceramics Workshop and quality of life, proactive coping and self-esteem of people with schizophrenia diagnosis of both genders (male and female) and check if the obtained results were stable in time. Therefore was constituted a convenience sample (n = 9) in Forum Socio-Occupational Faro's ASMAL, and that, the participants were medicated and phase stable disease. The Artistic Ceramics Workshop was implemented for the period of five months with frequency of two sessions weekly of each 90 minutes and the evaluation protocol was made in three different observation moments (before, after the intervention and 27 days after the intervention) was composed by WHOQOL-Bref, a Proactive Coping Scale and Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale. Considering the obtained results, the Artistic Ceramics Workshop produced significant improvement considering the quality of life and the proactive coping of participants. The same didn't happened when concerning to self-esteem. It was also verified that the obtained results were not stable in time, and with the female gender the intervention was more effective in terms of the general perception of quality of life and general perception of health.
