Studies on social skills in health professionals allow the development of effective and satisfying interpersonal relationships among members of health teams, and between these and patients. This study evaluated and identified the social skills of 35 residents (28 women and 7 men) of a university hospital, aged between 22 and 50 (M=27.43 years), inserted in the Urgency and Emergency services. Data collection included a Questionnaire Socio Demographic, the Questionnaire Emotional / Behavioral Aspects and the Social Skills Inventory - Del Prette (IHS - Del Prette). The results indicate that, in general, residents had good social skills. However, there was indication of the training of men in relation to F1 - Coping and self assertion at the risk and of women in relation to factors 2 , 3 and 4 (Self assertion in the expression of positive sentiment; Talk and social resourcefulness and Self exposure to strangers and new situations, respectively) of IHS - Del Prette. This research allowed us to expand the studies on social skills in health contexts, contributing to reviews of health workers and possible designs of social skills training programs in this area. The study does not exhaust other possibilities for analysis. Future studies would be relevant when addressing performance and social competence of social skills in contexts of health, which could increase intervention research in the area.
