Abstract

CARDOSO, Lurdes Bernardete Ferreira; GRACA, Luís Carlos Carvalho  and  AMORIM, Maria Isabel Soares Parente Lajoso. Sense of coherence, quality of life and bullying in adolescents. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2015, vol.16, n.3, pp.345-358. ISSN 1645-0086.

In contemporary society, the concept of violence gets trivialized, where young people tend to confuse jokes and indiscipline (Grossi & Santos, 2009), making bulling a social phenomenon with important implications in the quality of live and mental health of children and adolescents against whom it is perpetrated. Within this study its intended to analyze the factors associated with bulling in adolescents that attend the 3rd cycle of basic education at schools in the north of Portugal. A sample of 363 adolescents stratify by grade. They individually carried out a survey that was divided into four sections: characterization, SOC (Sense of Coherence) reduce version (Antonovsky, 1987, version Nunes,1999); KIDSCREEN 52 (Rvens-Sieberer & European Kidscreen Group, 2001; version de Gaspar & Matos, 2008) and a Bullying questionnaire - a scale of the bullies in continuity with the 10th dimension of the Kidscreen (Bullying- scale of the victim), The offenders prevalence was 56,7% and the victims was 61,7%. The victims major prevalence was 12,4% while the offenders major was 4,1%. The predominating offenders age is between 13 and 15 years old, that attend the highest school grade, a lower perceived quality of life. It was verified an association between victims and ofenders. The victims present a lower sense of coherence, quality of life and are carriers of a chronical disease. The development of personal and social skills its an area for priority investment with the purpose to improve the mental health and quality of life
