Resumen

BOECHAT, Maria Áurea Maciel  y  FERREIRA, Maria Cristina. Individual and organizational predictors of burnout among federal public servants. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2014, vol.15, n.3, pp.738-750. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/14psd150314.

The predictive power of individual (gender, age, schooling) and organizational (work overload, role conflict, pressure of responsibility, lack of autonomy, interpersonal difficulties) variables on the three burnout dimensions (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, professional achievement) was investigated. The sample was composed by 250 technical-level public servants of both genders who performed duties directly related to public. Data were collected by the Scale for Evaluation of Psychosocial Stressors in Labor Context and by Maslach Burnout Inventory. Multiple regression analyses showed that women showed higher professional achievement than men; the age and the schooling were negative predictors of the emotional exhaustion and the depersonalization, while were positive predictors of the professional achievement; the work overload predicted positively the emotional exhaustion and the depersonalization, while predicted negatively the professional achievement; the lack of autonomy predicted negatively the emotional exhaustion and the depersonalization, while predicted positively the professional achievement; the interpersonal difficulties predicted positively the emotional exhaustion and the depersonalization. Based on the obtained results, some suggestions for intervention strategies and future studies are made.

Palabras clave : burnout; job stress; federal public servants.
