Abstract

ZANCHET, Anne Torres  and  MARIN, Angela Helena. Psychosocial profile of patients with acute coronary syndrome. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2014, vol.15, n.3, pp.656-770. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/14psd150308.

This study aimed to investigate the psychological and social characteristics of patients with acute coronary syndrome. We conducted a desk study, exploratory and cross-sectional quantitative, with 93 protocols psychological evaluation in a multidisciplinary program of a private hospital of Porto Alegre - RS, from which we evaluated the clinical data (diagnosis of angina or acute myocardial infarction, unspecified), demographic (gender, age, marital status, occupation), psychological (mental state examination, defense mechanisms, general psychological state) and social support (family support and structure). The results indicated a significant number of elderly patients (64%), mostly male (58.1%) and married (66.7%). Regarding the general psychological state, stood quiet states (52.7%) and anxiety (33.3%). The majority of patients had mood modulated / euthymic (54.3%) and used the rationalization (31.6%) and denial (29.9%) as defense mechanisms. Since the investigation of the mental status exam showed no significant changes. Finally, the support and family structure were effective. When analyzed the relationships between variables, only found a relationship between marital status and type of diagnosis, indicating that married patients have a higher likelihood of acute coronary syndrome (p = 0.03). Together, the data indicate that it is important to pay attention not only to physical suffering of patients with coronary artery disease, but also for the social and psychological issues, as these can significantly influence the development of the disease and the treatment thereof.
