Abstract

The article presents a qualitative research aimed to identify the main complains involved in caring for the elderly an how these may be interfering with the daily routine of caregivers. The data was collected through an interview with twelve caregivers of elderly people assisted by Family Health Strategy(FHS), a municipality within the Rio Grande do Sul, conducted through home visits. It was found that most Most caregivers are female, informal caregivers, middle-aged or elderly. From the results it was possible to identify the routine established for the care of dependent elderly people is made up of conflict, stress, physical and emotional exhaustion, changes in life plans, social isolation and overwork.
