The aim in this study was to verify and describe the occurrence of therapeutic factors in a support group for women with breast cancer. In total, 109 patients and 30 companions attended the group meetings considered on this occasion. The corpus comprised the audio recordings of 12 group meetings, defined according to the saturation criterion. The analysis of the corpus involved the use of a three-phase strategy and was independently developed by the researchers, based on a classification system of therapeutic factors. The clear predominance of counseling and the instillation of hope was observed, which together totaled 80% of the occurrences of therapeutic factors. In addition, therapeutic factors were verified during all meetings, which can be considered an indicator of the group’s problem-solving ability. Nevertheless, comparative studies are needed to clarify whether the framework used in the group under analysis is the most indicated for women with breast cancer.
