Abstract

HENRIQUES-CALADO, Joana et al. Adaptation to pregnancy of primiparous women of advanced age and their partners. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.2, pp.288-294. ISSN 1645-0086.

Relationships between Axis II personality disorders (DSM-IV) and Sidney Blatt (1990, 2008) constructs of relatedness (dependency) and self-definition (self-criticism) were explored in a sample of autonomous aging women. The sample consisted of 102 women participants (M = 72,07 years of age, SD = 7,04). The Portuguese version (Henriques-Calado & Duarte-Silva, 2009) of Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire (PDQ-4+; Hyler, 1994), and the Portuguese version (Campos, 2000, 2009) of Depressive Experiences Questionnaire (Blatt, D’Afflitti, & Quinlan, 1976, 1979) were applied. The histrionic (ß = 0,34), dependent (ß = 0,26), and obsessive-compulsive (ß = 0,39) personality disorder scales showed to be significant predictors of dependency, explaining 50% of the results; the narcissistic (ß = 0,34), borderline (ß = 0,25), and avoidant (ß = 0,29) personality disorder scales showed to be significant predictors of self-criticism, explaining 63% of the results. These findings are consistent and in accordance with the conceptualisation which extends the range of psychopathology to a dimensional interpersonal approach.

Keywords : Aging; dependency; personality; personality disorders; psychopathology; self-criticism.
