We’ve used a qualitative, exploratory study with semi-structured interviews, content analysis of different dimensions: motivation and job satisfaction, access to employment, significant relationships at work, relevant aspects of performance, continuous training and future of units. 37 professionals participated, aged between 23 and 35 years, with 9 men and 28 women. The participants reported motivation, work adaptation difficulties, physical and psychological distress and lack of specific training in the area. Some professionals choose those job due to lack of other options. Participants also reported good personal relationship into multidisciplinary team and independence in their work and consider these units an important asset for the elderly care and families support. Limitations of space and lack of time were pointed as difficulties in concern to families contact. Insufficient network, referencing, weak social responses, home return and caregivers support were signed as less effective. There should be more institutional and community responses sustained through social security.
