VICENTE, Carla S.; OLIVEIRA, Rui Aragão  y  MAROCO, João. Factorial validity of the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI-HSS) among Portuguese professionals. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.1, pp.152-167. ISSN 1645-0086.

Burnout represents a prolonged response to chronic interpersonal stressors on the job, which comes from the perception by the subject of a discrepancy between the efforts and achieved in their work. The aim is to assess the reliability and factorial validity of the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS), when applied to a sample of professionals working in the social intervention. The study was composed of a sample of 363 professionals working in the area of social intervention. The sample collection occurred between January to March 2011. The instruments used were: sociodemographic questionnaire and the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Human Services (HSS). The results based on Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) corroborate that Burnout, assessed with the MBI-HSS, fits a three-dimensional structure. A reduced version where items 5, 6, 7 and 22, were removed showed a significant better quality of fit to the sample under study than the original MBI-HSS. The internal consistency of dimensions of emotional exhaustion (.84) and personal accomplishment (.70) inventory was acceptable, except for the depersonalization factor that was low (.59). The present study shows that the MBI-HSS allows the estimation of burnout in professionals working in the social intervention with acceptable factorial validity and reliability.
