Abstract

This narrative review aimed to gather information on measures of stress according to the theoretical perspectives that underpins the methods of study in the area and also point out the evidences, characteristics and limitations of the various ways of measuring the phenomenon, favoring the better structuring of futures researches and consequent choice of measure methods of stress. Thereby, possibilities of measure are described according to the theoretical and empirical evidence that guides the researches on the topic, being divided between biological, environmental and self-perception measures of stress, respectively located in the response-based perspective, the stimulus-based perspective and the cognitive perspective. Finally, we sought encouraging the reflective stance of the researchers on the measurement methods and also the possible consideration of combined techniques for deeper scrutiny of stress.
