SOUSA, Janice Ramos de. Personality, coping, social support associations and nutritional state. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2011, vol.12, n.2, pp.183-196. ISSN 1645-0086.

The analyses of the nutritional state and the relationship between the characteristics of personality, coping and the social support were investigated in 328 employees. Inventories were used to check the health, physical activities, eating habits, BMI (Body Mass Index), fat percentage in the body, styles of coping, traces of personality and social support. Men presented average BMI of 25,3 (sd=4,0) significantly bigger than women (24,4; sd=4,0) (p ‹.001), and men were not different from women in most part of the varied analyses. The mains positives predictors to BMI at the regression multiply analysis were age, emotional coping and the participation in a weight loss program. The data analyses did not show the existence of a connection between personality with antropometrical data. The results showed that the average BMI of workers are high, having a tendency to overweight and only one of the dimensions of coping demonstrated to be associated positively with the BMI.
