The aim of the present study is to discuss the assessment of stress. We use as a pretext the study of the adaptation of the Perceived Stress Scale. The study of the Portuguese version keeps 13 of the 14 original items. Results show that metric properties of the Portuguese version are similar to the original version. Then we can consider that the Portuguese version assesses the same construct as the original scale. However, it continues to be an important issue the way psychologists use to assess the stress, frequently ignoring the conceptual support of the stress measure used.
