Abstract

CASTILLO, José A. García del  and  DIAS, Paulo C.. Self-regulation, resiliance and substance use in adolescence: adaption of the short self-regulation questionnaire. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2009, vol.10, n.2, pp.205-216. ISSN 1645-0086.

In the present study are presented the adaptation studies’ of the Short Self-regulation Questionnaire (Carey, Neal & Collins, 2004), a measure that allows the adaptation of Impulse control and Goal setting. In the analysis of the psychometric properties of the questionnaire was found a consistent factorial structure and high reliability values. It was also studied the relation between self-regulation, resilience, with the use of the Resilience scale (Wagnild & Young, 1993), and substance use in adolescence. The results suggest a relation between self-regulation and substance use, beyond a high correlation between goal setting and resilience and a moderate correlation between resilience and impulse control. The implications of the study are discussed.

Keywords : Self-regulation; Resiliency; Substance use; Adolescence.
