Abstract

REIS, Ana Catarina; LENCASTRE, Leonor; GUERRA, Marina Prista  and  REMOR, Eduardo. Portuguese adaptation of the Questionnaire to assess adherence to antiretroviral treatment - HIV (CEAT-VIH).. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2009, vol.10, n.2, pp.175-191. ISSN 1645-0086.

This study aimed the translation, cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric study of the questionnaire to assess adherence to antiretroviral treatment (CEAT-VIH in the original) for the Portuguese context. The cross-cultural adaptation process included the forward-backward translation method (Spanish Portuguese Spanish), followed by a verbal assessment of the items comprehension with a group (n = 10) and pilot test (n = 9). This step was followed by the psychometric study of the questionnaire (n = 125) at the hospital (, Portugal). The results of the psychometric study allowed us to confirm the reliability (α = 0,709) and validity related to an external criteria: viral load (r = -0,20; p < 0,001). Sensibility (70,3%) and specificity (56,8%) of the questionnaire for the detection of the subjects with a detectable viral load was good. The Portuguese version of the CEAT-VIH revealed to be useful, reliable and valid for the assessment of the degree of adherence to antiretroviral treatment.
