Abstract

PAIS-RIBEIRO, José Luís  and  PONTE, Ana Carolina Silva L. C.. Metric properties of the portuguese version of the MOS Social Support Survey with a sample of aged people. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2009, vol.10, n.2, pp.163-174. ISSN 1645-0086.

Social support refers to the variety of resources provided by other persons. The MOS social support survey was developed for patients in the Medical outcomes survey. The objective of the present study is to study the Portuguese adaptation of the MOS Social Support Survey with an aged population. Participants are 225 individuals, aged over 65 years, 65.8% females. The scale contains 19 items measuring four dimensions: emotional and informational support, tangible support, affectionate support, and positive interaction, more a total score. Results of the present study exhibit metric properties similar to the original version of the United States of America, and to the previous studies Portuguese European versions. Differences from previous studies suggest that the scale is sensitive to the aged group of the present study.
