Resumo

The current article introduce a study realized near children with type 1 diabetes mellitus, which the main purpose is to understand and explore the disease experience perceived by them. Grounded theory is described as a remarkable methodological framework with qualitative features. Data were collected by semi-structured interview. Ten children, equally shared by gender, with the age range from 7 to 12 years old, compose sampling. The data was collected in Hospital Central Especializado de Crianças Maria Pia. Results showed the magnitude of disease experience of those children, that can be explained by developmental peculiarities. Children narratives showed cultural and social elements, which could be allow a detailed analysis based on selected narrative conceptualized models. This proposal also alerts to focus these features in intervention near this population and reinforce the psychologist role in this field.
