Abstract

COELHO, Carlos S.M.; SANTOS, Jorge A.  and  SILVA, Carlos Fernandes da. Motion sickness: aetiology, predisposition factors and adaptation . Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2007, vol.8, n.1, pp.33-48. ISSN 1645-0086.

This article is about motion sickness. After a brief description of the anatomy of the vestibular apparatus we review the theories about the genesis of motion sickness. We will centre our attention on the cue conflict theory (Reason & Brand, 1975), on the postural instability approach (Stoffregen & Riccio, 1991), and on the poison theory (Treisman, 1977). At last we will discuss the symptoms prevision and its treatment.

Keywords : Motion Sickness; Simulators; Virtual reality.
