This article examines the psychosocial status of obese individuals before and after Swedish and Lap Band, Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Band (LAGB). The conclusions presented come from a 24 month longitudinal evaluation, as well as a review of the literature and from experiences of our bariatric surgery program at the Central Hospital of Funchal (Serviço de Cirurgia 2). Our data suggest that the post-operative participants life conditions, evaluated under BAROS scoring significantly improved in weight, in quality of life and in comorbidities.
