The aims of the present study is to develop a Portuguese version of the Mini-Mental Adjustment to Cancer Scale (Mini-MAC) in a conservative way (maintaining the original dimensions and items). Participants include 60 cancer patients, 30 breast cancer (age 30 M=51,1 years) and 30 Colorectal cancer, 53,3% homens (age M=53,33 years). We discuss the concept of Coping and Mental Adjustment involved in the Mini-MAC scale and we study its relation with an outcome measure, the quality of life (DDV), using the Functional Assessment Cancer Therapy C and B. Results show the fusion of some dimensions of the Mini-MAC, namely Anxious Preoccupation and Helpless/Hopeless, a pattern similar to other researches in different languages. The relationship between dimensions of Mini-MAC and QDV are but varying in function of the cancer. The relationship between the dimensions Anxious Preoccupation and Helpless/Hopeless and the emotional dimension of the QDV scale, do not clarify the question if Mini-MAC scale is a measure of coping or a measure of adjustment. The Portuguese version of MiniMAC shows a similar pattern with the original version and with other versions. The metric properties of "Fatalism" dimension is a problematic, similarly with other studies.
