This study aims to describe the health beliefs of man over 50 and to study it’s impact on prostate cancer screening (digital rectal examination). The sample consisted of 80 Portuguese male individuals older than 50 and with absence of previous prostate cancer records. To evaluate the health beliefs we took advantage of the Health Belief Model (HBM) as a theoretic support and we used an adaptation for Portuguese and for prostate cancer of the Health Belief Scale applied to breast cancer developed by Champion (1993).
