RODRIGUES, Maria Adelina; ROSA, Joana; MOURA, Maria de Jesus y BAPTISTA, A.. Emotional adjustment, coping strategies and illness perception in parents of children with cancer disease . Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2000, vol.1, n.1, pp.61-68. ISSN 1645-0086.
This investigation concerned the analysis between emotional adjustment, coping strategies and illness perception in 60 parents of children with cancer disease. The comparison between parents of children with the disease and parents of recovered children revealed the existence of significant statistical differences concerning emotional adjustment, the coping strategies used to deal with the child disease and the illness perception. Parents of recovered children presented better emotional adjustment, more adequate coping strategies and better illness perception. For both groups were found significant statistical associations between the studied variables, suggesting that a better emotional adjustment was associated with more adequate coping strategies and illness perception.
