Abstract

MACHADO, Sandra de Souza. Gender stereotypes in the Audiovisual Industry: Women filmmakers engender new role models. Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2019, n.Extra, pp.233-243. ISSN 0874-6885.

Recent media studies, through statistics and audiovisual criticism, reveal fundamental characteristics in Eurocentric audiovisual production - especially those made in USA, hegemonic worldwide -, which instigate and root archaic (intersectional) gender stereotypes that permeate diverse cultures and global societies. Audiovisual productions made by new generations of female filmmakers - directors, screenwriters, producers and actresses - have marked necessary and urgent transformations on female representations and role models for children and young women.

Keywords : gender; stereotypes; audiovisual production; representations.
