Abstract

LAMONI, Giulia. To make an artwork, do you need to build a house? Some reflections on the work of Maria José Oliveira. Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2019, n.Extra, pp.193-205. ISSN 0874-6885.

Developed since the late seventies, the work of Maria José Oliveira articulates challenging encounters and ruptures between artistic practice, materiality and nature through the use of organic and non-organic materials. In dialogue with a set of ideas emerging from theoretical formations that question and reconfigure of the relations between the human and the nonhuman - with a particular focus on the implication of feminist thought in these debates -, this article intends to explore how the notion of “home” traverses the work of the artist.

Keywords : Portuguese contemporary art; feminisms; ecology; art and nature.
