Abstract

PASSOS, Sónia. Intersections of gender, “race” and nationality: Body and performance in Plantation memories of Grada Kilomba. Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2019, n.Extra, pp.93-105. ISSN 0874-6885.

Gender, race, and nationality, as lived and experienced analytical vectors, intersect in the work of Grada Kilomba, crossing gender and postcolonial studies with stories of the lives of black women. Plantation memories brings together episodes of everyday racism, putting in the same temporal plane past and present history, exposing wounds, seeking their deconstruction, fostering alternative readings. The book is a motto of a lectureperformance, in which five actors take the stage and the words assume all the force, dominating the bodies that resignify them. Taking the concepts of body and performativity in Plantation memories seeks to broaden the field of reflection about intersections of gender, “race” and nationality.

Keywords : intersections gender/race/nation; body; performativity; artistic creation; decolonization of knowledge.
