Abstract

CASCAIS, António Fernando. Gender Performativity, Queer Performativity and Queering As Method: An Introduction. Faces de Eva. Estudos sobre a Mulher [online]. 2019, n.Extra, pp.25-36. ISSN 0874-6885.

The notions of gender performativity and queer performativity are at the core of queer theory and queering is the methodology of queer inquiry that testifies to its extraordinary productivity in what concerns the destabilizing of the sex/ gender/desire equation. The application of the critical denaturalizing and des-essentializing queering project to the arts, from the performative arts to the fine arts and literature has proved to be immensely productive in order to discern the processes through which have been construed the binary opposition between masculinity and femininity, identitary stereotypes of gender, or abject sexual subjectivities.

Keywords : performativity; gender; queer; queering.
