Abstract

SOUSA, Sandra. Silences in the feminine in the Boletim da Agência Geral das Colónias/do Ultramar. Ex aequo [online]. 2019, n.39, pp.55-69. ISSN 0874-5560.  https://doi.org/10.22355/exaequo.2019.39.04.

This article focuses on the «silences of the feminine» in the Boletim da Agência Geral das Colónias [Bulletin of the General Agency of the Colonies/Overseas], that is, on the (almost complete) absence of women as writers in the pages of such an important vehicle of the colonial press. I intend to analyze and evaluate the reasons for this absence, beginning with the principle that silences should be recovered for a better understanding of Portuguese colonial history.

Keywords : Bulletin of the General Agency of the colonies; women; silences; Portuguese colonization.
