Abstract

CERQUEIRA, Carla  and  CABECINHAS, Rosa. Policies for equality between men and women in the media: from the legislative (innov)action to social change. Ex aequo [online]. 2012, n.25, pp.105-118. ISSN 0874-5560.

This paper aims to contribute to the necessary debate on policies for equality between men and women in the media as well as its reflections on professional practice. Three key dimensions are fully intertwined within this debate: content producers and media instances; products; and publics. Given the importance of national and international recommendations and political and legal guidelines, with the objective of a professional auto and hetero-regulation, further dialogue between academia, political institutions, civil society organizations and media organizations and professionals is needed, in order to change media practices by integrating a feminist perspective.

Keywords : policies; auto/hetero regulation; equality; media.
