CERQUEIRA, Carla; RIBEIRO, Luísa Teresa  e  CABECINHAS, Rosa. Women & blogosphere: a contribution to studying women's presence in the net support. Ex aequo [online]. 2009, n.19, pp.111-128. ISSN 0874-5560.

Several national and international studies indicate that the traditional media afford less space for the female voices than they do for the male ones. Besides, when women do appear, they are represented in a stereotyped manner, which is poorly representative of the roles they play in society. The blogosphere phenomenon first appeared in 1997, opening a path to new ways of intervening in the public sphere. Thus, blogs can be construed as a new place of expression for actors which the traditional media have made silent and secondary, such as women, for instance. With this in mind, it is important to reflect about the presence of women in the blogosphere, since it is a crucial matter from the society's point of view, seeing as it pertains to the exercise of citizenship. In spite the fact that it is a mechanism of self-edition, there is data that points to the gender inequality being reproduced in the blogosphere, making it pertinent to ponder about the participation in cyberspace.
