Abstract

SANTOS, Tânia; TOMAS, Magdalena Santo; FONTE, Aline S. da  and  CATALINA, María del Rocío. Models of nurses in Vargas and Franco dictatorship: feminine, caring and patriotic. Ex aequo [online]. 2008, n.18, pp.135-145. ISSN 0874-5560.

Social-historic study that intends to describe the main characteristics of dictatorial regimes of Brazil and Spain and to characterize some implications of these dictatorships for the Brazilian and Spanish nursing. The primary sources were constituted of written documents filed in the Center of Documentation of the School of Nursing Anna Nery (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro), located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and in the National Library of Madrid. The data collection was carried out in the period from February 01st to May 30th of 2008. The findings were classified, contextualized and interpreted according to the thought of the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu, which allowed the analysis of the importance of the intrinsic attributes to the feminine nature for the honoured insertion of the nurse into the public space, traditionally dedicated to men.

Keywords : nursing; gender; history of nursing; memory.
