Abstract

The Integrated Plan of Drug Addiction Prevention (PIPT), funded by the Institute of Drugs and Drug Addiction (IDT) and the Municipality of Vila Franca de Xira, is currently sponsored by the Association for the Promotion of Health and Community Development (APSDC), and has already 10 years of experience in the field of prevention and treatment of drug addiction in Vila Franca de Xira (region of the metropolitan area of Lisbon). This Plan comes in the context of the first national strategy against drugs and was considered a pioneer and innovative response in this domain, and is currently part of the Integrated Res­ponse Program of the IDT. This article attempts to make a retrospec­tive about the history of this integrated experience, and to present the objectives, main lines of action and achieved results, hoping further to contribute to a reflexion about the strengths and constraints of the integrated intervention policies and practices.
