The main purpose of the Socio-Educational Intervention Project for Children and Families from Cruz de Pau, 1995-2002, was the organisation and dynamics of educational resources for children under the age of 6, involving the families and the community in the prevention of risk situations. The project was coordinated by Professor Joaquim Bairrâo, Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, University of Porto, and was a result of the partnership between different local entities. The problems associated with the social disadvantaged identified in Cruz de Pau community, led to the implementation of different intervention programs focused on family support, promotion of the quality in the educational contexts, promotion of appropriated health and food practices and promotion of interaction styles between parents and children.
