This paper focus on the study of place identity contents, an issue that has been neglected by the literature. The main purpose was to identify the place identity contents and to analyse the relationships between them and the level of identification with the place, as well as with the place dimension. Two exploratory studies were conducted. The first was a qualitative study with university students, and the second a correlational one with a sample of residents living nearby Oporto. The results pointed out five content dimensions (Instrumental, Aesthetic, Historic-Cultural, Answer to Basic Needs and Environmental and Social Problems), that were significantly related to the other variables under investigation. The results were discussed in the light of relevant literature.
