Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Joana  and  COSTA, Maria Emília. Attachment styles and perceptions of parental and marital satisfaction in intact family triads. Psicologia [online]. 2004, vol.18, n.2, pp.57-74. ISSN 0874-2049.  https://doi.org/10.17575/rpsicol.v18i2.430.

The primordial aim of any psychological research is to contribute to the adjustment of psychological intervention to the subjects’ needs and ways of functioning in counselling. Since the family is a transversal context present in all psychological interventions, this study tried to understand the way tin which its different constitutive elements (using a sample of 230 family triads, composed by father, mother and its adolescent child) perceive the satisfaction derived from the family roles and its relation with the attachment to parents. In fact, the way each individual attributes signification is unique and contributes to the formation of relational expectations that are incorporated in internal working models. We found that more important than the way parents obtain satisfaction in the performance of the marital and parental roles is the way in which child perceives it. Besides that, secure subjects are the ones who perceive their parents as getting more satisfaction derived from family roles. On the light of the obtained results, we’ve tried to systemize the main psychological intervention questions at parents and adolescent levels, fostering the construction of secure and satisfactory adult relations.
