Abstract

VASCO, António Branco; SILVA, Fernando  and  CHAMBEL, João. Therapists' and clients' world-views: Impacts on the therapeutic alliance. Psicologia [online]. 2001, vol.15, n.2, pp.299-308. ISSN 0874-2049.

An open question regarding the contribution of therapists' and clients' variables for the quality of the therapeutic alliance, and for therapeutic efficacy, is the relative value of similarities and differences between them. One of this variables is personality, particularly what concerns "epistemic world-views". This study was designed with the main objective of testing if similarities of "world-views between therapist and client make a positive contribution to the quality of the therapeutic alliance. 34 therapist/client dyads were tested. Some of the results seem to confirmate the hypothesis. Some limitations and future research are stressed.

Keywords : Visões do mundo; aliança terapêutica; psicoterapeutas/pacientes.
