Abstract

CORREIA, Isabel Falcão. Categorisation and Interdependence: Two perspectives on Groups' Formation and Intergroup relations. Psicologia [online]. 1998, vol.12, n.2, pp.341-378. ISSN 0874-2049.  https://doi.org/10.17575/rpsicol.v12i2.583.

This article presents the controversy between interdependence and social identification perspectives. This debate concerns the role assigned to interdependence and categorization on group formation and intergroup behaviour. We explain how the social identification perspective has pretended to exclude interdependence from group formation and intergroup discrimination and how the data obtained by the interdependence authors sheds some doubts on those conclusions.

Keywords : categorização; interdependência; formação de grupos; relações intergrupais.
