Abstract

SILVA, Maria de Fátima. The fortune of an author called Menander. Rev. Port. de História do Livro [online]. 2009, n.24, pp.31-60. ISSN 0874-1336.

This article analyses the popularity of Menander through centuries, considering that, in an earlier stage, he was well know during the whole papyrus era, from the III century a.C. to the II century d.C. Later, after a period of silence in the Middle Ages, only some few references were made to him during the european Renaissance. Only in modern times, after an expressive part of his production having been found, new editions and studies appeared.

Keywords : new comedy; Menander; text; performance; transmission.
