ARAUJO, Verbena Santos et al. Early weaning: aspects of the experiences of informal workers. Rev. Enf. Ref. [online]. 2013, vol.serIII, n.10, pp.35-43. ISSN 0874-0283.  https://doi.org/10.12707/RIII1277.

Context: Breastfeeding is of fundamental importance for health promotion and the protection of children, in addition to bringing various benefits for the health of mothers. Objective: To identify the reality of informal workers in relation to breastfeeding in the city of Joao Pessoa - PB. Methodology: Exploratory and descriptive quantitative-qualitative research, carried out in the Central Market of the city of Joao Pessoa - PB. We used a semi-structured interview and analysis of data was performed using the content analysis technique. Results and discussion: Based on the statements of the participants, we understood that each mother adopts a different time for weaning her children, that there are many myths and difficulties interfering with breastfeeding duration, that the family is presented as the foundation for a woman who works, that the majority of mothers understand the importance of breast milk for the growth and development of the baby, and that the majority of interviewees had no difficulty breastfeeding because of their work. Conclusion: The problem of early weaning among the informal workers who participated in this study does not correspond with the experiences of many Brazilian women, in that the majority of participants did not wean their children early
