NEVES, Marília Maria Andrade Marques da Conceição e. The nurse’s role in the multidisciplinary team in Primary Health Care: Systematic literature review. Rev. Enf. Ref. [online]. 2012, vol.serIII, n.8, pp.125-134. ISSN 0874-0283. https://doi.org/10.12707/RIII11124.
International trends indicate a paradigm shift in primary health care, with the development of multidisciplinary teams that challenge the nurses to assume new outreach roles beyond the socially accepted and expected. With the aim of knowing how the nurse’s role in the multidisciplinary primary health care team is perceived, a systematic review of literature was carried out, based on 10 articles, all primary and qualitative studies, selected according to predefined criteria, and identified using the EBSCOhost platform, electronic bibliographic databases with full text and published between 2000-2010. A diversity of perceptions of the role of the nurse were identified: superficial knowledge of their competence by other professionals; being perceived as facilitator in access to care by users; nurses being key elements in interdisciplinary communication; and recognition that their role may expand in the area of preventive care for older people and in the home help context. We concluded that it is necessary to ‘work ‘ to achieve teamwork, that there are challenges to overcome to achieve more effective participation of nurses in the decision-making, planning and coordination of care, and that changes in perceptions will occur as the role of the nurse is better understood in the team and among clients.
