NUNES, Claudia  e  LOBO, Alexandrina. Study of the dimensions of quality of life for patients having hemodialysis. Rev. Enf. Ref. [online]. 2012, vol.serIII, n.8, pp.39-45. ISSN 0874-0283.  https://doi.org/10.12707/RIII1215.

Hemodialysis is responsible for major changes in the quality of life (QOL) of clients with chronic renal failure. The aim of this study was to assess health-related quality of life and factors associated with it. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive, correlational, using the Kidney Disease Questionnaire and Quality of Life-Short Form (SF-KDQOL) with 52 randomly selected respondents. Our results indicate that clients who have performed dialysis for between 1 and 5 years have a lower quality of life compared to those who have been treated for less than one year or more than 5. Men show a better perception of the quality of life, particularly on the emotional measure of the SF-36 and the effects of disease on daily life of the ESRD (End-stage renal disease). The dimensions most affected are general health (SF-36) and the burden of ESRD. We conclude that quality of life, as an indicator of the clients’ dynamism and adaptability to chronic disease, encourages the development of courses of action that allow the improvement of care for these service users.
