Resumen

CARVALHO, Jorge Miguel de Sousa  y  CRISTAO, Ana Sofia Morais. The value of nursing care: nursing consultations for men undergoing radical prostatectomy. Rev. Enf. Ref. [online]. 2012, vol.serIII, n.7, pp.103-112. ISSN 0874-0283.  https://doi.org/10.12707/RIII11120.

This article results from a research study conducted as part of the 16th Master of Science in Nursing programme, leading to a dissertation entitled “The man with prostate carcinoma: A transition in the male.” The aim of the research was to understand the process of transition for men with prostate cancer undergoing radical prostatectomy. Thus, we conducted a descriptive and exploratory qualitative study, using a semi-structured interview with 18 participants to collect data, and content analysis for the deconstruction of the material, using micro-analysis. Six categories emerged to explain the process of transition, leading to an understanding of the role of nurses in participants’ transition. After breakdown of narrative and critical reflection, we saw the need to implement nursing consultations for men scheduled for radical prostatectomy in order to meet the care needs of these individuals.

Palabras clave : nursing; transition; referral and consultation; prostatic neoplasms.
