OLIVEIRA, Vanessa  e  PEREIRA, Telmo. Anxiety, depression and burnout in nurses: Impact of shift work. Rev. Enf. Ref. [online]. 2012, vol.serIII, n.7, pp.43-54. ISSN 0874-0283.  https://doi.org/10.12707/RIII1175.

The objective of this work is to recognize anxiety, depression and burnout levels in nurses working in shifts. Data collection was performed through the development of a questionnaire including two instruments previously translated and validated for the Portuguese population: Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). This questionnaire was administered before and after the afternoon shift. In both stages of evaluation, participants had average levels of emotional exhaustion, low personal accomplishment and depersonalization (MBI). Regarding anxiety and depression, the values obtained were consistent with a moderate level of anxiety and mild level of depression (HADS). No statistically significant differences were found between (levels of anxiety, depression and burnout) at the first and second assessment points. It is crucial that health professionals responsible for management are aware of these issues and can thus take preventive measures.

Palavras-chave : anxiety; depression; burnout; nursing.
